Furthermore, if the president says the same thing he has been saying for years, you criticize him, but if he changes his direction you call him a quitter.

He is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't in your eyes, Erik, so what they hell is he suppose to do anyhow?

I predicted he'd say the same things with the words shuffled around a bit.

I'm wondering if you think my prediction is right or wrong.

Did he introduce anything new?

I know you think there ought to be major policy changes in regards to Iraq. What do you think of the presidents speech?

I think he gave a detailed report card for the progress of the Iraqi security forces. I think he outlined specifically what the Iraqi forces need to be able to do for us to be able to leave. I got a better sense that things are heading in the right direction.

Yes, the President mentioned similar themes he has been saying for a while that this will be a long, tough battle, but he does not intend to back down. But I also heard ideas that are encouraging, about how troops have been shifted to different roles and will continue to be shifted as the commanders on the ground see fit.

You can't cry that there is no plan in Iraq, he has detailed it clearly now. What problems do you have with his plan?

Although it lists "challenges", there's nothing new! The "plan" reads like campaign talking points.

I have to agree with Erik: I didn't hear a plan for success; I heard much of the same rhetoric I've heard before. Perhaps we all prejudged the speech and simply left with what we brought.

Anyhow, I just read an article that described Bush as Platonic (http://www.slate.com/id/2095160/). I don’t think the author had his philosophy quite straight, but his version of Plato vs. Aristotle reminded of your conversations over the last few days. Keep up the debate!
